As the old Chinese proverb goes – the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second-best time is now. As we close out not just another year, but another decade, it’s another chance to take stock and set goals for moving forward. While focusing on our dreams is a great place to start, we also want to set obtainable goals that we can start to take measurable actions to reach. That is to say, map out the steps so we can start moving towards our dream lives.
Reflection mixed with goal setting and action allows us to identify opportunities for change. For me, I was 40 when I went from a comfortable 9-5 job with the Government to managing my own social media business. At 42, I’m now about to launch my coaching and consulting business having studied and implemented the program, Thinking into Results, over the past 2.5 years.
I’m living proof that it is truly never too late to start a new career. I’m living proof that you don’t need a university degree or golden piece of paper to make it successful in business. I’m living proof, that we can all make a change and have the life that we want. It’s at times like these that you are able to look at what you’ve done and decide where you will go.
I find it helpful to take inspiration from those around you as you look to grow through the next decade. Our circle of people should be helping us in our journey forward in life. Some personal examples for me:
- One of my very dear friends got her first degree at the age of 40.
- One of my past clients never finished Grade 12.
- My partner dropped out of school at Grade 10 (equivalent) and went on to compete in 20+ Sydney to Hobart races. To this day, at age 62, he gets calls to participate in the race, purely for his wealth of knowledge.
- My sister, at age 45, started selling cowhide handbags to her friends for a bit of extra money to help her family through the eight-plus year drought we’re currently experiencing in Central Western Queensland. That was nearly 4 years ago now and it’s still going well, and it truly saved them.
Outside of your inner circle, there is also an abundance of success stories to turn to. You can learn from these stories and use them as inspiration. From successful women like Estee Lauder to J.K Rowling or men like Steve Jobs and Elon Musk there is no shortage of examples of people to look up to as you take the next step in your life.
2020 is a great year to start something new. Get inspired and put yourself out there. Whatever you choose, make a vow that you will go boldly into this new decade. That you will believe in yourself and bet on yourself.
There is a Will Smith quote that says, “There is no reason to have a plan B because it distracts from plan A.” This is the type of mindset that allows you to focus on your goal and go after it. Trying is having the intent to fail which is not what our mindset it is heading into the new year.
If you’ve been sitting on the fence and wondering if “Thinking into Results” is for you then let’s chat. I was that person, I sat on the fence for ages before I jumped. I know how you feel because I was there, I felt stuck in the day in day out doldrums of life.
When I made the change and found my true calling, I knew I could work with others and inspire them to focus on the results they wanted from their lives going forward and going out there and getting them. In ten two or three more decades you can look back and remember that the 2020s was the decade that changed your life.
Book a call now and let’s lock you in to start early 2020. Get the tools to empower yourself.
